How to choose

The same watch in two sizes: the paired gift that works

The idea is simple: not two watches, but the same model in two sizes. In the Eighties and Nineties the maisons made them that way on purpose — his and hers, the same dial and the same bracelet, two diameters. Finding them together today is a matter of patience, because in thirty years they have almost always been separated. When it happens, we keep them together.

Why a pair works better than two watches chosen separately

Two different watches are two gifts. The same model in two sizes is a single gift, and it reads at first glance: the same dial, the same bracelet, the same period, two wrists. It is an object you notice when two hands are near each other, and it needs no explanation.

There is a practical advantage too: size. The larger model sits on a man's wrist, the smaller on a woman's, and the relationship between them is the one the maison intended, not an improvised match.

The pair available now

These are single pieces and can also be bought separately. If one of the two sizes sells before you decide, we look for it: these series do come back.

Hermès Clipper Classic, 24 and 30 mm: the same white dial, the same bracelet with H-shaped links.

If you want a different pair

It happens often, and it is normal: pairing two pieces from the same series, both in good condition and with the same dial, takes time. You can ask. The search costs 30 euros, deducted from the price at purchase, and it covers both watches of the pair.

The models made as his-and-hers series are the ones most often found as pairs: the Hermès Clipper, the Gucci 9000 series, the Cartier Vendôme, rectangular-cased Longines. Of these, the catalogue holds only what is published at any given moment: Cartier, for instance, we do not stock and source on request. Tell us the model and the budget, and we send photographs and a precise description of the condition before any commitment.

Two sizes, two wrists: what to check

  • The larger size is not automatically «for him»: on a slim man's wrist a 30 mm case sits very well, and on our pieces the maximum bracelet circumference is always given, where it has been measured.
  • A bracelet can be shortened, not lengthened. If one of the two wrists is generous, start from the piece with more links.
  • The two cases may show different plating wear: they have lived apart for thirty years. We write it listing by listing.
  • Box and papers almost never survive for both. Where they exist we say so; we do not present them as one set when they are not.

Quick answers

Can the two watches be bought separately?

Yes. Each piece has its own listing and its own price, and can be bought on its own. We present them together because as a pair they work better as a gift, not because they are a single lot.

Can you ask for a pair that is not in the catalogue?

Yes, it is the most frequent request. The search costs 30 euros, deducted from the price at purchase, and covers both watches. Timing depends on when the second size turns up: it can take weeks.

Are the two sizes from the same year?

Not always, and that is not a flaw: these series stayed in production for years, with the same dial and the same bracelet. Where the year is documented we state it in the listing.
